Reiki therapy is an ancient Japanese healing therapy. The word "Reiki" is derived from two Japanese words: "Rei" meaning "universal or divine spirit" and "Ki" meaning "vital life force." It’s believed this life force enters the practitioner through their crown chakra, which is located just above the top of their head.
The practice involves channeling this universal or divine energy into the subject, to help heal their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.
Mikao Usui founded reiki. This system is rooted in Tendai Buddhism and Shintoism and is based on living and practicing these spiritual principles. Reiki is not a religion; practitioners do not need to follow a specific set of beliefs. However, we try to live by the simple precepts that Usui taught to improve one’s life.
Reiki, translated to ‘Spirit Energy’, is an ancient Japanese technique that aids in physical pulse healing.
Throughout the world, people use Reiki for many different purposes. One of the most well-known is to provide comfort for pets.
Reiki for pets is designed to be used by anyone. It’s not solely for professionals in the healing arts - anyone can use the techniques to relief the pet.
To do this, Reiki practitioners simply channel their natural, divine energy.
Reiki can also bring peace to a dying pet.
Reiki for humans usually involves a comfy massage table to lay on with the practitioner placing her hands on different areas of the subject’s body...
A Reiki session for a dog might be a bit different.
A good way to start treatment is for the practitioner to sit on the floor with the dog in the room. Invite the dog to share in the Reiki session - the practice is inviting the dog to come in. It’s also helpful to let dogs know they can take as much or as little Reiki as they wish. Some dogs prefer to receive Reiki from a distance, as it is usually facilitated as a form of energy work with healing as one of its goals.
At Caring 4 Canines, we lays our hands on different areas of your dog's body. This is good for de-stressing, pain relief, and promoting healing.
